INTERMEDIATE OIL PAINTING I
"In the Style of"
ART 301 is one of three structured painting courses in which students are required to familiarize themselves with the works of a number of assigned artists. The students then, by analyzing the color usage, spatial techniques, compositional dynamics, paint handling, content, and signature motifs of the assigned artists, are asked to produce original art works that demonstrate a respect for the vital traditions of painting's past while simultaneously establishing a visual dialogue with that past that moves forward in the pursuit of a personalized engagement with visual Quality.

The painting faculty are regularly encouraged by the amount of time and energy the majority of our students dedicate to their studio practice and are rewarded by the remarkably personalized, varied, and impressive results they consistently achieve.
