DEADLINES for admission in the fall of 2022:
USA applicants - FEBRUARY 15, 2021
International applicants - JANUARY 15, 2021
Deadline for MFA Painting applicants from American colleges or universities to the University of Miami is February 15, 2022 for admission the following fall semester (August 15, 2022). The international application deadline for that same fall semester is one month earlier (January 15, 2022 - to allow time for international transcripts to be certified).

Applicants from non-English speaking programs outside the US are also required to demonstrate their proficiency in English: (

Applying to our MFA program is a four-step process.
Step One:
To apply for the Painting MFA program at the University of Miami you first need to submit an application to the Graduate School’s College Office of Admissions, where you will also send your transcripts and pay a $85 application fee.

Step Two:

In addition to the materials above you are required to submit the following information and materials through Acceptd:

1. A portfolio of 20 images of your recent artwork (JPEG, JPG, PNG, or GIF files)            

2. A writen statement describing your motivation for pursuing the MFA degree that includes a description of your career goals

3. Submit names and contact information in Acceptd for three references who know you well and are wiling to submit a recommendation through Acceptd.

Applications for admission into the MFA program are only considered for the fall semester of each academic year. The deadline for submission of all materials to the Graduate School and the Department of Art & Art History is February 15 for the following fall. You will be informed about the status of your application to the MFA program by April 1.

Step Four:
At the time of application for admission into the MFA Program, applicants wishing to be considered for a Teaching Assistantship must submit the Department of Art and Art History Assistantship Application form. This form is available online at http://www.as.miami.edu/media/college-of-arts-and-sciences/content-assets/aah/documents/grad-forms/MFA_Application_2017.pdf or from the Department; please either call (305) 284-2542 or email art-arh@miami.edu. Assistantships include an $14,882 stipend plus a full tuition waiver worth over $100,000 (no charge for this step).
